Open Call: Catalyst Grant Zimbabwe 2025

Amount:

$5K

The British Council in Zimbabwe has launched the Catalyst Grant, a funding opportunity designed to support the early development of experimental ideas in the arts and cultural sectors. Offering grants of up to USD 5,000, the initiative aims to foster new artistic collaborations, research, and project development between Zimbabwe, other African countries, and the UK.

With a focus on flexibility, the grant allows artists, cultural professionals, and researchers to explore new concepts, conduct research, and create innovative works. Recipients are required to host at least one public event and demonstrate the progress of their research or project development.

Three Key Focus Areas

The Catalyst Grant is structured around three main components:

  1. Research and Insights – Supporting research in Zimbabwe, between Zimbabwe and the UK, or between Zimbabwe and another African country. This could include travel to establish new connections for future projects.

  2. Catalytic Experimental Artistic Projects – Funding innovative artistic projects by individuals or collaborative teams in Zimbabwe, other African countries, and/or the UK. Projects must result in at least one public output.

  3. Collaborative Artmaking – Encouraging artists, creatives, and cultural professionals to work together on new artistic projects, with final works shared either online or in person in Zimbabwe and the UK.

Encouraging Cross-Border Collaboration

The grant seeks to create long-term collaborations between creative professionals in Africa and the UK in the spirit of the British Council’s Culture Connects programme, which is aimed at promoting international artistic partnerships that contribute to a stronger global creative network.

Application Process & Deadline

Applications for the Catalyst Grant must be submitted by Sunday, 23 March 2025, at 23:59. The process includes submitting a project proposal, budget, activity plan, and letters of intent from partners.
